Positive Progress Made at the 3rd Session of Sino-Chile FTA Commission Meeting

The 3rd Session of Sino-Chile FTA Commission Meeting was opened in Beijing on May 14-15. Such issues as bilateral trade development, tariff concessions,certificate of origin,sanitary and phytosanitary measures were discussed and positive progress was made .

Sino-Chile FTA was signed in November 2005,which is focused on goods trade and cooperation. It took effect in October 2006. Sino-Chile bilateral trade has grown rapidly ever since the agreement went into effect. Trade volume in 2007 and 2008 were US $14.67 billion and US $17.53 billion respectively, up 65.9% and 19.5% year-on-year. In 2008, China’s quality inspection and quarantine authorities issued a total of 114,000 copies of preferential certificate of origin in line with the FTA, concerning US $5.44 billion of exports, and the number of document and dollar amount up by 25.9% and 53.4% respectively.

In April 2008, China and Chile signed Sino-Chile FTA Supplement Agreement on Service Trade (Sino-Chile FTA Agreement on Service Trade).It is expected to go into effect in early 2010 upon completion of domestic ratification procedures.
