2009-08-06 11:27
  From:MOFCOM    Article type:Translated

MOFCOM and WTO Secretariat jointly held “Seminar on WTO's Government Procurement Agreement (GPA)” in Beijing on August 3-4, 2009. The seminar is part of WTO technical assistance. Two experts sent by WTO Secretariat explained in detail at the seminar about GPA framework, main provisions, accession procedure, and revision. Relative Chinese government departments, business associations, research institutions and representatives of some enterprise were present at the seminar.

GPA is a plurilateral WTO agreement, aiming to promote the participants to open up government procurement markets, so as to expand international trade. At present, there are 14 GPA participants, including the U.S. and EU, and 41 WTO members.

According to China’s commitment upon its WTO accession, China submitted application to WTO Secretariat for joining GPA on December 28, 2007, and officially launched negotiations on accession to GPA. It is the second major negotiation in foreign trade China has launched since its accession to WTO.
